Psychomotor therapy

Attention to the links between bodily and psychic experience.

Psychomotor therapy draws on neuroscience, physiology and anatomy, as much as on psychology and psychiatry. It sits at the crossroads of these disciplines.

Requests lie on a continuum: from a simple wish to look inward, or a daily unease, to a suffering that is sometimes deep, and/or to more severe disorders.

What brings you here

The reasons that lead people to consult are varied.

They may concern the body and movement directly, or relate more to emotions and relationships with others, or to the relationship with the body itself.

  • The body and movement

Developmental delay, clumsiness, balance or coordination difficulties, tics, stuttering, chronic pain, post-fall syndrome, illnesses, neurological conditions.

  • Emotions and the mind

Self-confidence, anxiety, depression, addictions, psychotrauma, relational difficulties, behavioural difficulties, managing anger, sleep difficulties, eating difficulties, psychosomatic disorders, professional exhaustion / burnout.

  • The relationship to the body

Eating disorders, the experience of violence, gender dysphoria, or more simply, the wish “to learn to love one’s body”.

  • The stages of life

Our body grows and crosses thresholds: puberty, pregnancy, ageing. So many sensitive periods where a psychomotor therapy session can be a safe space.

  • Neurodivergence

Having developed a fine understanding of giftedness, I very often see HQI/THQI people. I also work with people affected by ASD, ADHD and/or specific learning difficulties.

How it goes

A safe space, at your own pace.

The most common rhythm is one session a week or every two weeks, but that can vary, as can the length of the support.

Sessions, fees and help with funding
  1. 01

    Meeting

The first appointment allows us to clarify what you are asking for, what I can offer, and to meet each other, without judgement and at your own pace.

  2. 02

    The psychomotor assessment

If needed, a psychomotor assessment can be carried out. It is not a mandatory step before sessions. It is a first snapshot: where the person stands in their body (fine and gross motor skills, relationship to time and space, bodily experience, sensory experience). We read the difficulties there, and the resources too.

  3. 03

    The sessions

They are built around bodily mediation and exchanges: relaxation, singing, dance, music, drawing, clay, therapeutic touch, self-massage, breathing. A session lasts about 40 minutes.

About me

“Bodily experience also has to be read, understood and brought up to date in the light of contemporary societal themes.”

I have been a psychomotor therapist since 2016, and my interest in sociology, political science and philosophy leads me to think of psychomotor therapy as open to the world. I also train professionals on parenthood, child development, babywearing, transculturality and giftedness.

Frequently asked questions

Before you book an appointment.

Do I need a prescription to see a psychomotor therapist?
Yes. Psychomotor therapy is a paramedical profession, recognised by a state diploma, in the same way as speech therapy and physiotherapy. The skills of psychomotor therapists are governed by Decree No. 88-659 of 6 May 1988. A medical prescription is required to start an assessment or follow-up, but it is not asked for at a first appointment.
Is psychomotor therapy reimbursed?
Psychomotor therapists are auxiliary medical professionals; their care is not yet covered by the national health insurance system. Help does exist, however: more and more private health insurers (wellbeing packages), the extra-statutory benefits of CPAM, the MDPH (PCH, the AEEH supplement), as well as certain pension funds and works councils.
How much does a session cost, and how long does it last?
A follow-up session costs €47. The psychomotor assessment takes 4 sessions, so €200 in total (€50 per session). A session lasts about 40 minutes, most often once a week or every two weeks. If you are facing financial difficulties, we can talk about it.
Do you see adults? And children?
Yes, I work in private practice with teenagers and adults. I also see children on request or depending on the situation, and the sessions are for anyone, from babies to older people.
